Fresh off the release of the album Skeletons and his first-ever live DVD, horror-rocker Wednesday 13 has decided to reunite with guitarist Rayen Belchere for a second album from the southern-fried “Outlaw Country” band Bourbon Crow. The new material, scheduled to begin recording next month, morphed out of songs originally written for the next Wednesday 13 album, but the band founder soon found himself pulled in another direction.
“After talking to Rayen, we came up with roughly 30 new Bourbon Crow songs,” Wednesday recounts on his blog. “These songs were coming together naturally, without having to force anything.”
The Bourbon Crow sound has been described as “Cowpunk” or “Southern Gothic,” basically amped-up honky-tonk with a dark, menacing edge. But Wednesday isn't calling this one a Country album. “Some of these songs will fit the country model,” he explains, “While some may end up being more of a Southern rock vibe... It will be hard to categorize what genre this is.”
Wednesday also reports that several artists have expressed interest in joining forces with Bourbon Crow when the time is right, and after 2009 tour commitments for his self-named band are complete, he plans on assembling the new Crow team for recording and touring.
“I look forward to hitting the road with this project,” he added. “We plan to do some dates in the States in April/May and then hopefully going overseas in the Autumn. I look forward to playing live again with Rayen and putting together a new band to bring these songs to life.”
