And now time for our favorite director name of the month! The winner is... Gore Verbinski… again. Yeah, it’s tough not to like a guy with such a visceral name but horror film purists might find a few reasons to after reading this; Apparently Verbinski has finalized negotiations to remake last year’s Korean monster movie The Host. I personally enjoyed Verbinski’s work on The Ring and Pirates of the Caribbean – two films that I think contain a lot of elements similar to those of The Host so this could be interesting. The thing that makes me skeptical, however, is that Gore will NOT be directing as he’s currently wrapped up in pushing video game Bioshock to the big-screen. So who will be at the helm on the project? According to Variety it's James’ brother, Fredrik Bond.
Personally, I haven’t seen anything Bond has worked on since he’s primarily directed commercials and television isn’t particularly good for my gag reflex – but visual experience is definitely important if they’re to match the beautiful monster that the original generated. Smart People scribe Mark Poirier is set to pen the screenplay. No word yet on any plans for a start date but with The Host 2 on its way in Korea we can surely expect the remake sometime after the sequel starts heating up the box-office.
