Rocksteady Studios have released the first footage from their upcoming game Batman: Arkham Asylum, showcasing the dreary, dilapidated environments of the fictional institution. It looks good, in a Silent Hill by way of Starbreeze sort of way, with definitely more than a passing resemblance to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness.
In Arkham Asylum, you play the role of Batman (duh) trapped in a free-roaming Arkham Asylum (duh again), completing missions, battling famous villains like the Joker and Killer Croc, and searching for clues Condemned-style. Its story is penned by Paul Dini, who did a massive amount of script work for Batman: The Animated Series, and features the voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and the Joker, respectively. Killer!
Batman: Arkham Asylum is due out in 2009.
