Just days after Twilight opened up to a jinormous 70 million dollar paycheck (which I like to think was delivered to Summit Entertainment in a large burlap sack with a dollar sign on it), and after working off of a budget barely eclipsing 30 million, it seems Summit is making sure that the Twilight train rides on. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson each earned an estimated 2 million dollars for the first film and will now get a bonus of what will round out to be 10 million dollars each – as well as a cut of the box-office take of the subsequent films.
Damn, I gotta say that out of all the people in Hollywood, Robert Pattinson has it the hardest: ten million dollar pay raise, a percentage of box-office earnings, all the women he could ever imagine, a pair of icy blue eyes that a GPS locator could get lost in… (sigh). While we’ll be seeing Bobby Pat and Ms. Stewart returning for the sequels, no word yet on when we’ll see the sequels themselves. Director Catherine Hardwicke has this to say on the subject: “I want to be sure that [the second film is] going to be done right. I don't want to rush into it. It's not like Friday the 13th or Halloween, you can't just do it super fast and knock another one out.'' With all due respect, Ms. Hardwicke, you could probably film Robert Pattinson making a peanut butter sandwich at this point and you’d be looking at another 70 million plus opening weekend – so don’t think about it too long.
