The righteous metal gods of Heaven and Hell – better known as the 1980 “Ozz-free” version of Black Sabbath comprised of singer Ronnie James Dio, guitarist Tommy Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice – are about to wrap up work on the all-new album they began recording this summer. The project, recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales, represents the first original material from this lineup since the 1992 Sabbath release Dehumanizer.

Originally reunited in 2006 to record three new tracks for the Rhino Records set Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, the group decided to tour under the name Heaven and Hell – most recently joining the massive “Metal Masters” US tour with Judas Priest, Motörhead and Testament.

The overwhelmingly positive fan response to these shows (as well as to that sweet Rules of Hell box set containing all the Dio-era Sabbath recordings) inspired the team to launch into all-new material, and the result of that inspiration is tentatively scheduled for an early 2009 release from Rhino, with a supporting tour to follow next summer.
