When I think about Roald Dahl’s The Witches, I can’t help but be overcome with fond memories of my childhood. Angelica Huston used to freak me out in that movie. Bad. Maybe that’s why it took me so long to see Crimes and Misdemeanors. But take those great childhood memories and fuse them to two names: Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo Del Toro. Okay, now we’re talking adulthood memories! Empire Online had the chance to sit down with Cuaron, who spoke briefly of an adaptation of The Witches which he will produce and good ol’ Guillermo will direct. Damn, these guys just don’t quit. But hey I’m not complaining! According to Cuaron, talks about the film started with the two attempting an adapt of Dahl’s Uncle Oswald, which slowly turned to The Witches. Here’s what Cuaron had to say about the current state of the project (for which Del Toro has apparently already written the screenplay)…
"It won’t be like the original Nicolas Roeg version, which was a beautiful film, because Guillermo plans to do it completely in stop-motion animation." Del Toro must’ve been inspired by his work on Gris Grimly’s Pinocchio to wanna pounce on his own stop motion project already. Let me just say though, as a devoted Guillermo follower… I’m in!
