'Fables' Coming to the Idiot Box

ABC has inked a deal to bring DC/Vertigo’s comic Fables to their network programming next season.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Semel has come on board to direct the series, which will revolve around characters from fairy tales and folklore living in exile in modern-day New York.  While Fables has been in print since 2002, this isn’t the first time a network has tried to see the series through.  NBC took a stab at developing a TV series based on the comics during the 2006-07 development season with writer Craig Silverstein.  Self-described “lifetime comic book fans” Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner are penning the hour-long pilot.  Sounds pretty cool to me.  What say you comic-book purists?
