So remember when it was reported that the follow-up to the Will Smith-starrer I Am Legend would be a sequel as opposed to a prequel? Yeah. Remember when that made absolutely no sense? Sure do. Remember when it wasn’t true? Well, I guess good things do come to those who wait, because for everyone who gathered outside the studio gates, torches in hand – Will Smith made it worth holding off on the arson. Collider spoke to Will Smith at the press junket for Seven Pounds, where he commented on the next Legend film and assured fans it would be a prequel, not a sequel: “We have a fantastic prequel idea... we're still trying to work through a couple of bumps in the story. It's essentially the fall of the last city – the last stand of Manhattan. The movie would be... within the body of the movie D.C. and then Manhattan would fall as the last city. It's a really cool idea trying to figure it out... there's a reason why we have to take a small band and we have to get into D.C. So we have to make our way from New York to D.C. and then back to New York."
Thank God! The idea of a sequel to I Am Legend that still involved Will Smith’s Robert Neville made me ill. This sounds like it actually could outperform the first film, which was, truth be told, pretty boring, considering Will Smith was the only human for the first 75 percent of it. So what about that awesome dog from the first film? "Yes, the dog will be a puppy," commented Smith.
