We’ve got some sad news for you, folks… A few weeks ago we put up a news story that Forrest J. Ackerman, acclaimed horror aficionado and the man behind the enormously influential Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine, was in failing health and where you could send your well wishes to. Well this past Friday, we’re saddened to report that Mr. Ackerman passed away at the age of 92 – living just long enough to see his 92nd birthday on November 24th. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ackerman family.
Aside from establishing Famous Monsters over his illustrious career, Forrest Ackerman also served as a literary agent for the likes of H.P. Lovecraft and Ray Bradbury, created the beloved horror comic character Vampirella, and on his personal estate – the aptly named Ackermansion - housed an enormous collection of props and memorabilia from horror film history (much of which is now part of Seattle’s science-fiction museum).
