The Austin Film Critics have always been pretty progressive with picking their end-of-the-year awards – at least compared to their counterparts. I remember a few years ago I was very pleased to see that they had recognized Ellen Page’s performance in Hard Candy as the best of the year while everyone else followed the masses and gave the award to Helen Mirren for The Queen. Either way, the Austin Film Critics announced their Top 10 Films of this year and again they had some horror movie love to dish out. Aside giving the number 1 spot to Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the critics also gave the number 9 spot to this year’s Swedish delight – vampire flick Let the Right One In. Let the Right One In ran the festival circuit and recently just had a limited (and brief) theatrical run, receiving rave reviews from almost anyone who saw it. Unfortunately now that the end of the year has come critics have pretty much just copied each other’s picks and rearranged the numbers and Let the Right One In has been left out in the cold. Well thanks to Austin Film Critics, no more! Congratulations to Tomas Alfredson and the rest of the LTROI team, well done. What do you guys think? Is Let the Right One In one of the top ten best films you saw this year?
