Just in time for the Holidays, Norwegian Gothic-industrial powerhouse Gothminister just premiered a chilling new video for “Darkside,” the first single from their just-released album Happiness in Darkness.
“Darkside” is a bit of a crossover attempt from a group with an international cult reputation based on flamboyant stage shows featuring hyperactive electro-metal beats drenched in cartoonish vampire imagery. The band adopt the same signature look in this video, but the song itself is more pop-metal than their earlier work. The lead vocalist, who shares the same name as the band (shades of Alice Cooper), has a rough but powerful delivery that boosts the material above the usual Goth clichés.
That's not to say the video doesn't employ all the Gothy visuals anyone could ever manage to cram in four minutes' runtime – burning skulls, candlelit cathedrals, lightning and fireballs, horror movie soundbites (this time from John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness) and band members sprouting giant black raven-wings mid-song. But that's okay, because more importantly this video is all about a seriously hot chick wandering through haunted corridors in her underwear. Therefore I declare it to be excellent.
Viddy well, my brothers and sisters...
