Who will release Watchmen and when? If that yellow latex Silk Spectre II suit has been creeping into your dreams at night, it’s safe to say you’re not alone. While fans dream pleasantly (probably too pleasantly sometimes, boys) about the anticipated arrival of the Watchmen live action film helmed by 300 director Zack Snyder, somewhere in Hollywood, studio execs have been waking up in cold sweats screaming at the top of their “post-pubescent but still remarkably whiney” lungs at the copyright debacle currently being massaged by Fox and Warner Bros. Tonight though, Fox execs will sleep a little sounder and Warner execs, as well as you and I, will likely cry until the tears crust our eyelids and we’re forced into sweet slumber. Why the sleep-apnea prediction? According to Variety.com, Los Angeles federal judge Gary Allen ruled that “Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the Watchmen motion picture.” This ruling, of course, almost definitely puts an end to the very-public and heated copyright debate. However, despite the seemingly finite ruling, Warner Bros. has not announced any cancellations or modifications to their March 6 release date. So, who exactly watches the Watchmen? After this court ruling, we don’t think anyone is entirely sure WHO or WHEN the Watchmen will be watched… what do you think?
