With each new image released from Watchmen, with each new piece of footage we've seen, we've grown more and more excited for director Zack Snyder's upcoming epic film adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel opus. Well, somebody get us an ice pack and thermometer – because at this weekend's New York Comic Con, our excitement grew to a friggin' fever! We were a part of the first public audience anywhere to see an iconic scene from the comic brought to thrilling big-screen life – the moment where Rorschach, while still held in prison, clobbers his tormentor, breaks the "sneeze guard," and snatches up a bucket of boiling hot fryer grease, which he then, of course, uses to douse the fellow inmate's face. The cherry on this sundae of destruction is the classic Rorschach line, "I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me."

Co-creator Gibbons was on hand at the screening to answer questions from fans. One audience member asked him if Alan Moore was "as bat-shit crazy as he looks." Gibbons said "No," but added, "He is batshit crazy in Hollywood terms" – due to the fact that Moore does not want his name on any Hollywood project, success or failure.

Regarding the end of the film, which is expected to differ slightly from that of the graphic novel, Gibbons was elusive, joking that "The Squid" may or may not be there. But, he was quick to add, he will be dining on calamari after the premiere.

Speculation has also been ripe that Warner Brothers may insist on some sort of spin-off film if Watchmen proves as successful as some at the studio hope. "There's nothing I can do, said Gibbons. "[But] if you add anything to Watchmen, you're not enriching it, you're diluting it." Furthermore, if there is a sequel, Gibbons said he doesn't think Snyder will be involved.
