Oh how adorable. You somehow thought by that headline, pairing “Sam Raimi” and remake”, that we had the ultimate, breaking, long-awaited news about an indefinite Evil Dead remake/sequel/prequel! We don’t. Rather, we have news that Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures--the same company that brought you The Grudge and FEARnet originals like 30 Days of Night: Blood Trails and 30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust--plans to bring you remakes of two European horror titles! Full details beyond the jump.

According to Variety.com, first on the remake slate is the 1987 Spanish film, Anguish, originally written and directed by Bigas Luna (and featuring CREEPY performances by both Michael Lerner and Zelda Rubinstein) about two girls who watch a scary movie and find that soon after, their life begins to mirror the horrific plot. Jake Wade Wall (When a Stranger Calls) has already penned the remake script. Next up is The Dorm, about a college freshman who unsuspectingly moves into a haunted room. The Dorm is to be penned by Stephen Susco (The Grudge, The Grudge 2) and directed by Martin Barnewitz (Room 205). Additionally, Sam Raimi himself  returns to horror with his upcoming feature, Drag Me To Hell, starring Alison Lohman (Beowulf) and Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) hitting theaters May 29, 2009. And just for shits and giggles, check out our recent interview with Bruce Campbell on the “status” of the next film in the Evil Dead franchise! Because well, I do feel bad for deceiving you… What do you think about these films being remade? In some circles Anguish is thought of being a minor classic, do you want to see it remade?
