Brace yourself folks! This is the news that can uproot your otherwise dormant life! According to HollywoodReporter.com, the director of the New Line and Plantinum Dunes “reimagining” of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street has been announced! Breathe. Hit the jump. Find out the fate of the franchise. Read our inner dialogue. And breathe again. It might just be a long bumpy ride down Elm Street…

And the winner is…

Samuel Bayer!

Who?

Oh well, he’s a fairly unknown, first-time director.

Uh Excuse me?

Oh, well, um, he directed a bunch of commercials and music videos like Nirvana’s 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. And well, he’s attached to direct another thriller for Platinum Dunes titled Fiasco Heights. We're not 100% certain, but this could prove to be an interesting pairing.

Also according to the report, Robert Englund will NOT reprise his role as the iconic Freddy Krueger (although there has been much talk of bringing him back for another role). I’ll wait a moment while you erupt. And like the Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th reimagining, The A Nightmare on Elm Street remake will include plot lines from several films of the franchise. Does that mean a revisit from the 'Dream Warriors'? Oh boy.

A Nightmare on Elm Street “reimagining” will start shooting this spring.
