We received a very interesting email this afternoon regarding The Haunting In Connecticut poster that stirred some ectoplasmic conversation---the best kind!—earlier this week. In short, the email gives a bit more detail as to what Ectoplasm actually is---a physical manifestation, usually a gooey-like substance (eww) that comes out of the medium’s orifices. Great. Next time someone blows a snot rocket around you, you’ll think twice. If you’re an Ectopro, we’re sorry for the refresher, but for those not so engrossed in the paranormal world, hit the jump for more detail, check out the poster again and watch a video of “actual ectoplasm photos” and you decide. Are they Photoshop doctored or the real deal?

“Charles Richet created the word ectoplasm from the Greek words ektos and plasma, which together mean "outside formed" to first describe the physical manifestations of spiritual energy. It comes out of the medium’s orifices (ears, nose, mouth, etc.) in a gauzy or gooey-like substance. It’s most memorable in the movie Ghost Busters when the characters “got slimed” – that was ectoplasm. Often when found in photographs, any unexplainable mist and vapors have been called ectoplasm. The structure of the ectoplasm can vary, but is always a result of paranormal activity.”
