If there's one thing we here at FEARnet love to see, it's the kind of relentless, unconditional, passionate love that motivates fans to dress up as their favorite characters, regardless of what non-fans might think (or wish to call them behind their backs). Here then are my picks for the top five costumes to be found at this year's Wondercon.
Wonder Woman. A classic, true, but it's not often that one finds somebody who knows how to wear it well. Kudos to this young woman.
Frank Miller's take on The Spirit might have done a little bit better at the box office, or at least with fans, if he'd approached the character as this fellow does. Goofy, yes. But still ready to solve a mystery, no matter how perplexing it might be – just like Will Eisner's classic character. And most importantly, he's unafraid to don Denny Colt's traditional blue!
There can never be too many people in the world willing to dress up like the evil Monarch's henchmen on The Venture Brothers.
The Silent Hill nurse is a pretty simple concept, but it always proves effective. In fact, one such costume won FEARnet's first (and so far only) costume competition at the New York Comic Con in 2008.
Finally, the lovely ladies of Yelp. Technically, they're not fans, just a bunch of gals hired to advertise the popular website at the con. Why then do I include them here? Because when I'm traveling in an unfamiliar city like San Francisco, Yelp helps me find restaurants that are open late enough to keep me going when I need to post stories like this one at 4:00 in the morning. Yay Yelp!
