Your movie ticket pre-order list just got a bit more confusing and your Thor/Avengers countdown calendar has just gotten a little longer folks! According to HollywoodReporter.com, Marvel Entertainment announced Thursday that the Thor and Avengers films are being pushed back a year! Thor, originally planned for July 16, 2010 will now hit theaters a year later on June 17, 2011 while Avengers, originally scheduled for July 15, 2011, has been pushed back to May 4, 2012. While no reason for the push-back has been provided it’s likely that the studio is attempting to establish the multi-character Avengers crew before releasing the film—you know, we have to have every kid wearing Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury back-packs two years before the movie even comes out.

With this change in schedule, Marvel will now have at least one major superhero film per year for the next few years with Iron Man (May 7) in 2010, Thor, Captain America (July 22) and Spider-Man 4 in 2011 (May 6) and Avengers in 2012. If 2008 was the year of the vampire and 2009 the werewolf, then 2010 has some a lot of explaining to do before movie goers are slapped with the dawn of the Marvel Superhero in 2011.
