Look familiar? If you’re a member of Twitter.com then we’re sure it does. When did this happen? Updating your minute-by-minute ‘status’ online for all to see is all the rage these days. What started as a quick and easy way to stay in touch with friends on Facebook has turned into a thumb-typing frenzy, filling in friends and strangers alike on every day minutia from where you’re headed to party on a Saturday night to what flavor coffee you ordered this morning. But did you realize that celebs are ‘tweeting’ as well? There’s even a site monitoring them (http://valebrity.com/) so you know who’s real and who isn’t. FEARnet has decided to check in from time to time to let you know which genre celebs are worth following, and you know they’re top notch because we’re following them ourselves!
Wes Craven
Wes was tweeting like crazy leading up to the release of The Last House on the Left this weekend, communicating with fans and running periodic trivia contests for signed The Last House on the Left posters. We were kept up to date on screenings, press/fan events and even a few updates on his latest film 25/8. While his tweets have slowed down a bit since the release of Last House this weekend, we’re sure he’ll pick up right where he left off as 25/8 nears release and he gets cracking on his next remake. Wes even confirmed to us that it is indeed him tweeting with the help of one of his producers, definitely keep an eye on him.
Fave recent Wes Craven tweet – ‘Doing ADR in NYC for '25/8.' Planning to see 'Last House' tonight in the city.’
Amber Benson
Genre fans may remember Amber as Willow’s (Allyson Hannigan) love interest Tara from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but Amber is also an author and has worked with comic book publishers IDW and Dark Horse on a few genre themed releases. In addition, she just released a novel this Feb entitled Death’s Daughter. Amber tweets on just about everything from where she’s hanging out, to where you can catch her latest book signing.
Fave recent Amber Benson tweet - ‘Darn it! My eggs stuck to the pan!’
James Gunn
Writer, actor, producer, director James Gunn has done it all. He has ties to Troma, Dawn of the Dead, Scooby Doo and VH1’s Scream Queens. James doesn’t post much about the industry (or working in it) but he does post updates with fun links and personal info about where he’s heading for the day and what he’s been up to in addition to updates on his hilarious 'PG-Porn' project.
Fave recent James Gunn tweet - ‘Shit. I forgot I had to have that cavity fixed today. Was looking forward to a clean, full day of writing.’
The Crazies Film
We’re not sure who’s tweeting from the set of Overture Film’s remake of the George Romero classic The Crazies, but there are some days in which this person just won’t stop! Giving detailed info about shooting schedules and bits of info here and there regarding the remake, it will be interesting to see if other films in production start tweeting like this. Until then, for an up to the minute insiders look into horror moviemaking this is definitely a great place to start.
Fave recent The Crazies Film tweet - ‘nothing like a standoff with gas masks!!’
Jon Favreau
Not exactly horror, we know, but genre fave Jon Favreau has been posting tons of personal tweets from the set of Iron Man 2 and this weekend from SXSW. He’s been taking tons of pics of himself and his celeb friends hanging out as dishing out info for fans on what he’s been up to (including where he’s been eating?). We’d imagine as Jon digs deeper into production on Iron Man 2, he’ll have to be careful how he distributes tidbits between online outlets and his own personal Twitter account. We’ll be there to see how he does it, and you should too.
Fave recent Jon Favreau tweet - ‘Your tweets have been heeded. I sampled the Salt Lick. Indeed Austin's finest. Can anyone ID the jersey?’Find anyone interesting to follow on Twitter? Let us know by comenting below!
