While no new horror title released this week, genre titles held on strong at the box office! Quasi-genre title The Knowing, starring Nicholas Cage, scored the #1 spot raking in $24.8 million beating out brom-com I Love You Man and the less-sexy Mr. and Mrs. Smith titled, Duplicity. Dropping from #1 to #4 is Andy Fickman’s Race to Witch Mountain which brought in $13 million bringing the total gross to $44.7 million. Watchmen dropped from #2 to #5 and brought in a meager $6.7 million, bringing the total gross to $98 million. If you’re keeping count, at this pace, they’re not even close to meeting the $150 million budget.

From the #3 to #6 spot The Last House on the Left scored $5.9 million for a $24 million total in its second weekend, falling slightly behind the remake of Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes (2006) which brought in $8 million during its second weekend. The dark-but-affable animated feature adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline is still holding on in the top 10 after its early February release, wrangling in another $2 million for a total of $72.8 million.

Next week, The Haunting in Connecticut. What are your predictions?
