With Free Comic Book Day just less than three weeks away, we caught up with Devil’s Due Publishing’s President Josh Blaylock to chat about the new series premiering on FCBD 2009, Mercy Sparx: Under New Management. With significant buzz about the DDP title Hack/Slash movie adaptation currently swirling on the web, we couldn’t help but ask about the possibility of a Mercy Sparx movie coming from the DDP camp! Apparently it’s a stronger possibility than we anticipated this early on…

“I definitely would [consider it], says Blaylock, the creator of Mercy Sparx. “I’ve had some offers but I’m not in any big hurry to get that set up. We’ve been approached by people and we haven’t signed anything yet because I want to make sure that there’s enough of the story out there for them to understand what I’m doing and going for—kind of get a glimpse of what the big overarching world is like.”

Though Blaylock hasn’t officially signed on for the Mercy Sparx live-action adaptation, he did have someone in mind to play our favorite angel-killing devil.

“An Eliza Dushku kind actress,” he says. “Someone that can have the right look and carry the attitude as well… But I haven’t really sat around and thought about it as much as you might think, which is unusual [Laughs].”

Elaborating on another casting choice, Blaylock says, “Mr. Suit would just have to be a big giant CGI, maybe with Kevin Grevioux doing the voice.”

While Blaylock’s comments lead one to believe the Mercy Sparx movie could be in our future—though not very near—his thoughts on the Hack/Slash film adaptation make us wonder if the anticipated slasher comic treat will be somewhat delayed.

“We’re going to hear something soon,” he says. “We’re actually waiting around to see what’s happening with the whole transition going on with Rogue.”

What does that mean exactly for the film’s competitive fare against the newly announced Eve? (About a spawn of a serial killer—pegged as a Dexter Morgan and Cassie Hack love child—who becomes a serial killer that kills serial killers. We’re not sure. What is for certain though is that the Devil’s Due Publishing crew isn’t going to stop producing kick-ass ladies like Cassie Hack and Mercy Sparx anytime soon!
