Make no mistake -- John Carpenter's original Halloween is terrific horror film. But isn't the genre big enough for a second masterpiece celebrating our favorite holiday? After thirty years, don't we deserve another great film devoted to October 31st? We think so. And we think Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat just may be that film. Now fans will have a chance to decide for themselves, at a special screening of Trick 'r Treat at this month's San Diego Comic-Con 2009, with Dougherty and his cast in attendance. Hit the jump for more details.

Trick 'r Treat will screen at 9:30 PM on Thursday, July 23rd in the San Diego convention center's Ballroom 20. According to the convention's official programming schedule, the film features "four interwoven tales set on Halloween night: a high school principal who moonlights as a vicious serial killer; a young virgin whose quest for that special someone takes a gruesome turn; a group of teens who carry out a cruel prank with disastrous consequences; and a cantankerous old man who battles a mischievous trick-or-treating demon."

Before the screening, Ain't It Cool News' Harry Knowles will moderate a special panel with Dougherty and stars Anna Paquin, Tahmoh Penikett and Brian Cox. Trick 'r Treat will hit Blu-ray, standard DVD and On Demand by Warner Home Video in October. But why wait? If you're going to Comic-Con, check out what sure's to be one of the weekend's most talked about events.
