Updated 9/19/09: It's official -- ABC has picked up the Clive Barker's Hotel script, beating out Fox and several other networks. According to Reuters.com, "Barker is attached as a producer, and filmmaker McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision banner is in talks to produce. McG could come on board as a director if the project moves forward."
Some interesting news out of THR’s Risky Business Blog today that Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (FEAST, SAW series, The Collector) have sold a pitch to Warner Bros. Television just off of the title Clive Barker’s Hotel.
Since this is in REALLY early stages of development, I have to admit that the idea of a new televised horror anthology series from Clive Barker, Dunstan and Melton is pretty damn exciting. D&M have written all three FEAST movies (winners of Project Greenlight), several of the SAW films and The Collector (a damn fine horror flick) was Dunstan’s directorial debut.
D&M also wrote an original draft of the Hellraiser remake, a flick which has been caught up in development hell for quite some time now. These guys know horror, and with Clive Barker attached, this thing has the potential to be a real monster. As expected THR speculates that the show will ‘follow a series of ghoulish incidents at a haunted hotel.’
I would love, love, LOVE to see this series picked up by HBO or Showtime, go balls to the wall and help reinvent horror on television as we know it.
