Underground industrial-metal outfit Society 1, fronted by notorious porn director, multimedia artist and guru of “Transcendental Satanism” known as Matt “The Lord” Zane, is putting the final touches on The Kiss of Shame, the band's first studio release of new material in four years. Zane offered a brief update on the band's MySpace this week – where the first single “Never Be One” has also been posted in its entirety – and shared some details about what the famously hedonistic metallers have been up to lately. Zane, a larger-than-life renaissance figure who first made waves as a director of adult videos, founded Society 1 in the late ‘90s as a platform for spreading his unique brand of transgressive art, which has included everything from poetry to live sex shows to body modification. Zane actually captured the record for the longest period of pierced suspension, swinging above the stage from several large hooks in his back – while singing, no less. The band itself has gone through several lineup changes, but has featured legendary performers like the late Paul Raven and Ministry guitarist Sin Quirin.

According to a recent post from Zane, the band is shopping for a new distributor (they parted ways with Earache Records after previous album The Sound That Ends Creation and since then worked with a couple of independent labels) now that the main recording process is essentially complete.

“We are at that point that enough of the record is done that we can show people how things are sounding and what direction the band is going," Zane comments on the band’s MySpace blog. "So we figured it was time to put some of the new tracks out there and see if anyone was interested.” He says that the feedback they receive will determine how the album is released.
