That's a pretty straightforward headline, but I don't see the point in beating around the bush. CHUD.com is reporting that Roger Corman, King of the B-pictures, one of the most influential horror filmmakers of all time (and pictured with yours truly) is finally getting his due, with an honorary Oscar at the next Academy Awards ceremony.
Corman's responsible for starting the careers of everyone from Jack Nicholson and Martin Scorsese to James Cameron and Jonathan Demme. And some of his better films are among the finest American fright films of all time. (House of Usher and The Tomb of Ligeia still hold up particularly well.)
White it's sad that the Academy never saw fit to bestow the same honor on Val Lewton, Jacques Tourneur and Mario Bava, at least one of our heroes is finally getting his due. And hey even if you don't hear Drag Me to Hell or Zombieland mentioned at this year's Oscar ceremony, at least there will be one name worth tuning in for.
From all of us here at FEARnet -- congratulations, Mr. Corman!
