Sony Acquires 'Most' Distribution Rights to 'Machete'
Just to catch you up, Machete was the Robert Rodriguez trailer that played during Tarantino's Grindhouse in which genre fave Danny Trejo wielded the titular weapon on his enemies and in some cases, the ladies (if you know what I mean, and I think you do). Official synopsis tells us that the story 'centers on a former Mexican police officer who turns the tables on the masterminds who double-crossed him'. Machete is just wrapping in Austin with an all star cast including: Danny Trejo (as Machete) along with Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey.
Variety is reporting that 'Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has acquired most international distribution rights for Robert Rodriguez's Machete'.
It's still unclear as to what this means for a US distribution deal. But some distribution is better than none at this point.
