David Cronenberg top Remake his Remake of The Fly?
According to The Hollywood Reporter Risky Business Blog, David Cronenberg is in talks to develop a reboot of the 1986 classic with Fox, the studio that released that film, writing and potentially directing the new pic.
The move marks an about-face for the Canadian director, who in the past has said he did not want to be involved on a remake of the film. Cronenberg did work on an opera version of "The Fly" that was staged first in Paris and then in Los Angeles.
Sam Raimi to take Refuge
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sam Raimi has signed on to produce a supernatural horror pic of that name, based on a pitch from up-and-coming British director Corin Hardy. The project has been set up at Mandate, where Raimi's Ghost House Pictures has a deal.
"Refuge" centers on a remote town terrorized by a Yeti, the mythological creature native to the mountains of the Himalayas. Hardy will direct from a script by fellow British writer Tom De Ville; both are repped by Paradigm's Marc Helwig and Trevor Astbury.
Jason Blum, Nathan Kahane and Steven Schneider will produce.
Ghost Rider Part 2?
According to Variety, Columbia Pictures has begun to rev the throttle on a second installment of the Marvel Comics character “Ghost Rider.”
David Goyer is in early talks to create the story and supervise writers for a film expected to once again star Nicolas Cage, who played the highly flammable cyclist in the 2007 original. Goyer said he hadn’t signed on yet. But plans are already under way to base the sequel on a “Ghost Rider” script written years ago by Goyer.
