Though it warms my horror-loving heart that two good fright films placed in the top 5 this weekend, I'm still a little concerned that one of these films dropped almost forty percent from last week's gross. BoxOfficeMojo is currently reporting that Sony's Zombieland earned 15 million this weekend to take the number 2 spot (behind Couples Retreat), a drop of 39.4% from the previous week. Of course such a drop isn't unusual for even a popular film, but Zombieland is such a damn good movie, I'd really hoped that strong word of mouth would help it become a huge hit. Ah well, it may prove to have legs yet.

Meanwhile, Paramount's Paranormal Activity grossed 7 million this weekend, after opening on just 159 screens, thanks to the studio's "Demand It" program. Needless to say, it'll be interesting to see what happens when the movie opens wide on the 16th, and reaches 1000 screens.
