Updated Monday 10AM: As of this morning's estimates, Paranormal Activity took the weekend with an impressive 22M on less than 2,000 screens. SAW VI's estimated take is 14.8M, good enough for second place but the weakest opening ever for a SAW sequel.
Early box office estimates are in and according to Deadline Hollywood, Paranormal Activity scored an estimated 7.5M on Friday despite being in about 1,100 less theaters than SAW VI, which took in an estimated 6.9M. Weekend totals for Paranormal Activity are estimated to be 21M when all is said and done, while SAW VI (arguably the best entry in the series since SAW III) will likely come away with a modest 18M for the weekend. We'll have actual numbers once they become available.
