Variety is reporting that Universal Studios Home Entertainment has partnered with Turner Classic Movies to provide a DVD manufacturing on-demand service much like Warner Bos. has done with Warner Archives. Some horror titles announced for the initial batch (never released on DVD) include: Murders in the Zoo (1933), Mad Doctor of Market Street (1942), The Strange Case of Dr. RX (1942), The Mad Ghoul (1943) and House of Horrors (1946). Titles will retail for $19.99 each or nab all 5 for $49.99.
According to The Hollywood Reporter SyFy has put and order out for 13-episodes of a U.S. version of the BBC show Being Human. Human revolves around 'three twentysomething roommates -- who happen to be a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf -- as they help one another navigate the complexities of living double lives.'
The Hollywood Reporter notes that DreamWorks as purchased the original screenplay Someone in the Dark, which is being described as a 'teen thriller'. Written by Richard Blaney and Gregory Small the flick is set to be directed and exec-produced by Carlos Brooks who originally came up with the idea for that story. As soon as we know exactly WHAT that story is, we'll be sure to fill you in.
Exclusively for The Daily Beast, director Martin Scorsese lists his '11 Scariest Horror Movies of All Time.' Some of the titles that make the cut and scare Marty out of his PJs are: The Haunting, The Uninvited, The Changeling, The Shining, The Exorcist and Psycho. Really Marty? All great choices, but very few surprises here. Still, it's a great list and definitely worth checking out to discover what it is exactly about these movies that scares Marty into writing a column.
