We reported a while back that American McGee, designer on classic games like DOOM and the fractured fairy tale world of Grimm, was returning for another twisted take on Lewis Carroll’s hallucinogenic heroine Alice, in a game appropriately titled The Return of Alice. American McGee and his development team at Spicy Horse have released a teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel, and it’s dramatically different than anyone could have expected. Check out the video after the break.
The difference doesn’t come from the teaser's wisp-thin hint of a plot (Alice has gone bonkers again), but in its undeniably creepy stop-motion animation. It’s very raw, bearing more of a resemblance to a Tool video than the slick veneer of Tim Burton's efforts in the genre.
Whether or not the game itself would be presented in this rough style (a bold artistic decision, to say the least) remains to be seen. I suppose we’ll have to wait until we get closer to the proposed release, a despairingly vague '2011.'
