The Hollywood Reporter just announced that former Buffy the Vampire Slayer showrunner Marti Noxon has been tapped by Dreamworks to write the remake of '80s vampire fave Fright Night. Noxon's served as writer or producer on a lot of recent critical darlings, everything from Prison Break to Mad Men, but lest we forget -- she was once responsible for some of the worst Buffy episodes ever.

Under Noxon's tenure as executive producer during Buffy's sixth and seventh seasons, the show took a definite nosedive. Lame, one-dimensional villains like season 6's Nerds of Doom and season 7's The First were introduced, scripts obsessed over Spike to the detriment of the show's core protagonists, and Buffy herself devolved into a shrill, humorless harpy. By the time the finale aired, it was a bit of a mercy killing.

I'm sure Noxon could care less what vampire fans think at this point (a WGA Award for Mad Men probably erases any lingering memories of bitter online talkback). But for those looking forward to this remake, I hope she shows it a little more care than she did the residents of Sunnydale.
