Florida 'death-groove' legends Six Feet Under are once again honoring their influences with another installment of their Graveyard Classics covers series. Graveyard Classics 3, slated for release next month, is a tip of the axe to timeless hits from the greatest names in metal... and a few decidedly non-metal names as well. Hit the jump to find out more about this ten-track dose of skull-crushing nostalgia...
Produced by frontman Chris Barnes in the band's home-base of Tampa, Florida, this latest installment features inventive tributes to the artists who influenced Barnes and his bandmates – including Mercyful Fate, Anvil, Metallica, Slayer, Prong and Twisted Sister, plus a handful of less metal-edged entries, including Van Halen, The Ramones and... wait a sec, did I see a BTO song in there?
That combination's not as off-base as it seems. Barnes stated that the band was specifically looking for “songs from early on in our musical upbringing, as well as tracks from when we were just fans of heavy music, before we started playing in a band... songs that have really stuck with us over the years, also choosing the songs that we felt would sound interesting when played in the SFU 'death groove' style.” Past Graveyard Classics records included covers of AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.
Graveyard Classics 3 streets on January 19th from Metal Blade. Be sure to check out the label's official site for details on a special pre-order package.
