Gizmo and Stripe in 3D!

In the wake of last week's news that Ghostbusters 3 may be in 3D, MarketSaw is reporting that a third Gremlins film is definitely in the works, and that plans are for it too to be shot in Steroscopic 3D.

No word yet on whether Gremlins and Gremlins 2 helmer Joe Dante will again direct (the way Ivan Reitman is doing Ghostbusters 3), but Dante's already jumped into the medium with his The Hole, so he's had some experience.

Not every horror film is ripe for a remake or sequel, and not every one is ripe for 3D, but Gremlins is such a goofy, campy, fun franchise that it strikes me as tailor-made for the format. Should Dante do it? Hell, yeah. And here's hoping they get writer Charlie Haas while they're at it, who's responsible for the scripts of Dante's two best films -- Matinee and Gremlins 2.
