This year's Slamdance may be in high gear, but the ripples of last year's are still being felt. (Hey, what can I say? On Mondays I mix metaphors like martinis.) Variety reports that Indican Films just picked up the rights to the vampire comedy Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead, and plans on releasing it April 16.
The adaptation of the acclaimed Tom Stoppard play (itself based on some obscure thing called Hamlet) debuted at last year's Slamdance Film Festival and was an official selection at the AFI Dallas and Hollywood festivals. The eclectic cast includes Waris Ahluwalia, Devon Aoki, Jake Hoffman, Kris Lemche, Ralph Macchio (Wha? Miho AND the Karate Kid?!), Jeremy Sisto and John Ventimiglia. The score is by Sean Lennon.
The film's "centers on a frustrated ladies' man who scores his big break when he lands the job directing an Off Broadway version of "Hamlet," a bizarre adaptation written by a master vampire."
