It's day three of our ultimate werewolf showdown! We've got results from our American Male and International matchups after the jump, along with more voting in our Teen division featuring fan faves from Twilight and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
In a down-to-the-wire battle, The Howling's Eddie Quist edged out sentimental favorite Larry Talbot, 51% to 49%. Eddie will be facing An American Werewolf in London's David Kessler, who obliterated Jack Nicholson's Wolf with a 74 point margin of victory.
Over in the International group, Dog Soldier Captain Ryan cut Count Daninsky down to size, 80-20 while The Beast from Brotherhood of the Wolf polished Leon Corledo, 72-28. It's hard to argue with the winners but we have to wonder if name recognition in the youth demographic hurt Oliver Reed and Paul Naschy.
Come back Friday to vote for Eddie vs. David and Ryan vs. The Beast. Now on to today's match-ups:
ROUND 1: DANIEL "OZ" OSBORN vs. SCOTT HOWARD
Daniel "Oz" Osbourne (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 1997-2000): The most laid back of werewolves, Oz discovers he is a werewolf rather randomly, and comes to terms with the decision with trademark Osbourne nonchalance. Popular primarily as comic relief and a laid-back counterpart to the high-school hijinks of Buffy's vampire hunting, his mellowness can lull opponents into a state of complacency before receiving a death blow, although getting a rise out of him can initiate a transformation regardless of the time or place. Otherwise, Oz is maybe not the best judge of prospective partners, having dated a lesbian for an extended period of time, but that's the price he pays for being brilliant but remarkably unmotivated. Best moment: In order to prove his commitment to then-girlfriend Willow, Oz gets naked, restrains another werewolf, and then tears out her throat, proving that Willow's the only person to whom he want to give hickeys.
Scott Howard (Teen Wolf, 1985): While Scott is a typical, awkward teenager in human form, as Teen Wolf he's confident, coordinated, and a hell of a dancer. But cross him - especially at a public event, like a basketball game, the Big Dance, or seven minutes in Heaven in a coat closet, and he's more than capable of proving that those claws, fangs and fur are for more than cutting a rug. Best moment: After an awkward introduction at a school dance, he wills all of his fellow students into submission with a hypnotic dance that celebrates his most monstrous qualities.
ROUND 1: JACOB BLACK vs. EDDIE MUNSTER
Jacob Black (New Moon, 2009): Jacob spent much of his adolescence watching his crush object get spirited away by a different kind of bloodsucker, but in New Moon he matures into something decidedly manlier - a wolf as soulful as he is savage. Patience, in addition to a tolerance for a neverending series of cold showers, is Jacob's secret weapon in this particular battle, but beware his sensitivity: he can turn literally on a moment's notice into a wolflike creature of destruction, even if he still wears jean cutoffs as his choice of comfortable workwear. Best moment: Notwithstanding his sensitive efforts to woo Bella, he shows her his tough side when in an effort to rescue Bella from his wolfen brothers, he catapults himself over a railing, ditches his clothes and transforms into a massive werewolf in mere seconds.
Eddie Munster (The Munsters, 1964-66) Eddie Munster, like Buffy's Oz, is probably more normal boy than bloodletter, but don't cross this kid. His family's a virtual rainbow coalition of creepy creatures: his dad's a stitchpunk monster, his mom and grandpa are vampires, and his uncle is also a werewolf. That said, he seems likelier to get into schoolyard shenanigans than field-strip a corpse with his claws. Best moment: carrying a werewolf should be evidence enough he's not one to mess with on the playground, but Eddie by far has the best hairstyle of any werewolf in this competition.
Winners of these two match-ups will face off on Friday, February 5, along with the survivors from our American, International and She-Wolf brackets. Meanwhile don't forget to vote today and tomorrow for your favorite She-Wolves!
