Bioshock 2

Bioshock 2, the sequel to 2K’s smash hit Bioshock (natch), has upped the stakes of its predecessor by casting you as one of the original game’s iconic monsters, the Big Daddy.  Just in time to amp you up for the game’s release, 2K has released the launch trailer for the game on the internet.  True, it also premiered during Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, but I can think of several other things I’d rather do than subject myself to Jimmy Fallon.  Trailer, and impressions, after the jump.

While my concern over playing as a Big Daddy is still there (it seems more like a novelty than a balanced gameplay idea), it certainly looks to be quite exhilarating.  Mixing the brute force of the lumbering brute with the plasmid powers of the first game looks interesting…almost as if you’re the bastard lovechild of Harry Potter, the Incredible Hulk, and Jacques Cousteau.  And truly understanding the menace of the Big Sister with her psychokinetic powers makes you somehow feel a little scared despite being a Buick on legs.

We’ll have to see if the game matches up on February 9, when it’s released for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
