The animated video for Under Bergets Rot – the latest single from the new album Nifelvind by Finnish mythic metallers Finntroll – features a ghoulish gallery of colorful beasties from the world of myth and legend, including octopus showgirls, a cocktail-sipping cyclops and a slam-dancing mummy... and these demonic dudes know how to party down. You can watch the video (and learn the story behind its creation) after the jump, so check it out!

Nifelvind has been charting well around the globe since its release earlier this year (it made its North American debut recently), and the band decided to do something unique to promote the latest single. “We have been thinking of doing an animation video for years actually,” reveals guitarist Mikael "Routa" Karlbomon on the band’s MySpace, “but for some reason we never did it, until now.”

After working with an outside director on their video for previous single Solsagan, the band decided to orchestrate the new clip themselves and capture the eccentric essence of the band. “We got the idea of doing a video that's happening in this weird, out of this world jazz-club, where we would play as the house band,” Routa explains. “The story in the song is more or less about the song that this dude hears... and gets mesmerized by it. While he's under the spell of this ancient song, he feels that only moments have passed, but then notices that years have gone by.” In the video, the club is populated by a wild assortment of cartoon monsters – including beastly versions of the band – and the main character is finally transformed into a monster himself.

The band offered the project to Helsinki-based animation studio Animaatiokopla, telling them to “go over the top with it,” and they were very pleased with the end result: “It has all the elements we wanted; weird things that go well with the music and even some gore.” The guitarist hinted that the band might go the animated route for a future video, but “can't promise anything yet.”
