Dead Rising 2

Capcom has released a new trailer for Dead Rising 2, the sequel to its 2006 Dawn of the Dead simulator completely original videogame concept in which intrepid photojournalist Frank West faced off against hoards of zombies at the mall. The newest installment, set a few years into the zombie outbreak, tells the story of motocross champ Chuck Greene as he fights zombie hoards while trying to find a cure for his infected little girl.

Previous trailers and screenshots have delighted us with chainsaws and antlers of mass destruction. Naturally, I was eager to see what new undead-dispatching tools the game developers were ready to unleash.

See the trailer and learn what I discovered after the jump...

Instead of gleeful gore, we're given character, plot and backstory. And a dude on a pink bicycle. But precious little else.

As the on-screen text explains, Chuck is "a renegade man with a tragic past in the wrong place at the right time" who "must uncover a dark conspiracy" and "survive a new nightmare."

Earth to Capcom: you've just described half the games I own that don't have the word "Madden" in the title. That description easily covers Batman: Arkham Asylum, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Final Fantasy X and Dig Dug. (Yes, I may have just admitted to owning FFX.)

OK, so no points for clever copywriting. But I am looking forward to some Carmageddon-esque vehicle-on-zombie action. Still not so sure about that bicycle, though...

Dead Rising 2 is due out on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year.
