Filmax Prepping 2 More '[REC]' Sequels!
Variety reports that Spain's Filmax Entertainment has greenlit production on Paco Plaza's [REC] Genesis and Jaume Balaguero's [REC] Apocalypse, two more sequels to their successful franchise which started with [REC] and was remade for American audiences by the Dowdle Brothers as Quarantine, starring Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter.
Plaza and Balaguero both co-directed [REC] and [REC] 2, but it appears for these next two sequels, they will develop the stories and each helm their own movie solo. Luis Berdejo (who made his directorial debut with The New Daughter) co-wrote the first [REC] and returns to his co-writing gig for [REC] 3, aka [REC] Genesis which is due in Spain's theaters in Fall 2011. [REC] 4, aka [REC] Apocalypse is expected to be released the following Fall in 2012.
According to the Variety report, "Genesis will explore the origins of the diabolic zombie mutant virus partially explained in [REC] 2." (And boy, what an explanation that was!) We'll keep you posted on more details as soon as we hear ‘em!
