Even if you can't make it to Europe for this summer's history-making onstage matchup of metal titans Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax, you'll get a shot at the next best thing: the epic “Big Four” show will be coming to selected movie theaters when the bands' performance at the Sonisphere Festival is broadcast live in HD. It's music history in the making, so hit the jump and find out how you can catch the show!

The metal faithful rejoiced late last year when Sonisphere announced that the four biggest names in '80s-era thrash would be sharing the stage for the first time ever... but obviously the seven-venue European tour proved a little pricey for stateside headbangers, so the promoters came up with an alternative in the form of a satellite simulcast of the June 22nd event in Sofia, Bulgaria. The high-definition broadcast will be available in over 450 theaters in the US, with other screenings planned for Canada, Latin America and Europe, as well as replay shows in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa... totaling more than 800 theaters worldwide.

The bands themselves shared their enthusiasm about this new cinematic spin on the legendary event: “Damn, as if this Big 4 tour wasn't exciting enough,” raved Anthrax's Scott Ian. “Metal at the movies, two big horns up!” Slayer's Kerry King was also impressed: “I can’t believe someone didn’t make this happen 15 years ago,” he commented. “The fans finally get what they want.”

“I am thrilled to know that people around the planet will be able to walk into a movie theater and experience the greatest line up of Heavy Metal in the history of the world,” says Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, and Lars Ulrich of Metallica declared “Bring it on!”

Tickets for the US shows are on sale now, so head over to the official Big Four Live website for complete ordering info... and follow Scott's final word of advice: “Get your tix, grab some popcorn and get ready to bang your head!”
