GWAR's latest announcement following their performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival was fairly dripping with disappointment (among other dripping things), particularly at their failure to fulfill their promise to “nasally violate Dave Matthews or Jay-Z.” To relieve their frustration, the band apparently opted instead to assault comedian Margaret Cho in the same manner. Or so they say. But let's be honest, anyone who considers the Scumdogs of the Universe a trustworthy news source is probably in the wrong line of work.
Wait, you mean they actually have video? Well, I guess we'd better take a look then...
GWAR's 25th anniversary global assault continues unabated, with plenty more stops to follow – eleven in the US (supported by Dirge Within and Mobile Deathcamp) and a couple dozen more in Europe over the summer – but the band considered Bonnaroo a significant landmark in their onward march of musical mayhem. The band's Saturday set – played to a record crowd of 15,000 – managed to snag dual SPIN Online awards for best AND worst act of the festival.
“A lot of people were very surprised to see us on the Bonnaroo stage,” stated famed vocal monstrosity Oderus Urungus, citing the fest's more indie rock-oriented rep. “But the more traditionally heavy festivals, such as Ozzfest or Warped, who claim to support underground and heavy music, have consistently denied GWAR, the heaviest underground band EVER! And what's even more ironic is that it took a bunch of tree-hugging hippies to give GWAR their biggest and best gig to date in the U.S. And that's after years of killing them onstage. Thank you, hippies!”
As for the band's alleged nostril debasement of Cho, apparently they weren't making this one up: she actually offered herself willingly as a blood sacrifice... and the band has video to prove it!
Be warned, this clip's not very work-safe... like that's a big fucking surprise.
