'The Blob' Returns

Just outside of FEARnet's home town of Philadelphia lurks the world's strangest monster movie festival. Blobfest, as it's become known, celebrates that gooey invader from the stars, who battled Steve McQueen in the original 1958 film The Blob. Hit the jump for more on this annual event, which occurs this year at the Colonial Theater in the town of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, where The Blob was filmed, on July 9th through 11th.

This year's Blobfest will feature live music (courtesy of Zydeco-A-Go-Go), tons of food, horror and sci-fi movie memorabilia vendors, classic cars, the annual costume and trivia contests, and the annual Friday-night "Running out" reenactment (participation in which is already sold) and tours. It will also feature an appearance by The Blob him (or her) self -- in the form of the original red silicone material that doubled as the monster in the film.
