Ohio metallers The Devil Wears Prada have just grabbed our attention by announcing their upcoming EP will be a concept piece devoted entirely to the living dead. Entitled (surprisingly enough) Zombie, the new project was based mainly around the scenarios laid out in Max Brooks' best-selling books The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, and is described by the band as “sinister and bad-ass,” which any fan of zombies and metal should rightly expect. “The whole thing is just completely based upon zombies,” says vocalist Mike Hranica, who got on “a real zombie kick” after reading Brooks' hugely popular how-to manual for enduring the inevitable zombie apocalypse. “I thought, 'What if we made a zombie song?' All it took was me just saying that to the band, and we had our hearts set on doing this EP.”

The horror concept is played completely straight in this record (unlike the band's previous satirical attempts like Reptar, King of the Ozone), weaving a grim tale in songs like Survivor, which “follows the plight of a man who loses his beloved to the undead and ultimately, in surviving the zombie plague, spends his days warding off the brain-starved and loneliness.” Other titles include Outnumbered, Escape, Revive, and Anatomy.

“The sound is definitely The Devil Wears Prada, but so much more,” Hranica continues, and guitarist/vocalist Jeremy DePoyster concurs: “It's going to be sick... It's us, but it's more Hatebreed-influenced and just straight-up thrash metal-influenced with some serious Slayer riffs.”

Zombie is available for pre-order at the band's merchandise page, and the EP is slated for release on August 24th. More details coming soon!
