The surprises from director Guillermo del Toro keep rolling in. At San Diego Comic-Con he announced his new partnership with Disney and the new Haunted Mansion movie, and now he’s dipping his toes in another pool…video games. Say what? Del Toror's next project as director was also announced today. Check out the full details after the break!
Talking to MTV, the director revealed that he’s not just thinking about dabbling in the electronic entertainment medium, he’s actually signed on with “a big company.”
“One of the things we're announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We're going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively [sic] very interesting,” explains the director. “It's not a development deal. We're going to do it. We're doing them. And we're going to announce it soon enough."
Del Toro offered up little else, explaining that if he let the proverbial cat out of the bag, his unnamed partners “would probably shoot me in the head.”
In addition, Deadline reports that del Toro's next project as dirtector will be the HP Lovecraft tale At The Mountains Of Madness. The film will be shot in 3D for Universal and James Cameron is on board as producer.
In the Lovecraft tale, a gruesome discovery made during a scientific expedition to the South Pole in the 1930s hints at the true origin of mankind having come from elder gods from another planet. Bad things happen when those life forms are awakened.
