The founding trio of Chicago-based “murder metal” band Macabre are marking their 25th anniversary with the release of a new studio album, now officially titled Grim Scary Tales. The groundbreaking true-crime-themed band promises to tackle no less than the entire history of murder in their new project – which will be launched early next year. Original members Corporate Death (guitars & vocals), Nefarious (bass & vocals) and Dennis the Menace (drums) formed Macabre in 1985, creating a sound that they describe as fusing “elements of true crime, math rock, nursery rhymes, punk, thrash, folk melodies, death metal, jazz fusion, black metal and more into an energetic, catchy and unmistakable amalgam”... all composed around lyrics based on the exploits of real-life killers throughout history. The band is so dedicated to the authenticity of their content that Corporate has attended murder trials for research – including that of Jeffrey Dahmer, himself the subject of the band's epic 2000 concept album.

Macabre will be releasing Grim Scary Tales in North America on February 8th through independent label Willowtip Records. According to the band's latest update, “the album explores the history of murder from the earliest times and proceeds forward through the ages. Stylistically it is Macabre in nature, yet very diverse musically.” The record also features ghoulish original cover art by Scott Jackson (of Monsterman Graphics and Rock N Roll Comics), depicting a very enthusiastic Vlad the Impaler poised in mid-feast, as you can see.

Macabre is currently touring Europe this month in advance of the album's release; no word yet whether additional tour dates are scheduled for North America, but the most current venues are posted on the band's official MySpace.
