Shatner Gone Wylde!

This is just weird enough to be cool... maybe. William Shatner has announced to the world, via a couple of tweets, that he's teamed up with axe-slinger extraordinaire Zakk Wylde to record a cover of the Black Sabbath classic "Iron Man." You've seen enough of Shatner's postmodern reverse-cool in the past decade that the news should come as no surprise, but this could turn out to be one of his most bizarre (but entertaining) team-ups yet. In Shatner's tweets, he revealed he's recording the Sabbath cover for his new album, entitled Seeking Major Tom. He also praised Wylde, complimenting his work with Ozzy Osbourne and calling Zakk "one of the great guitarists... a master. He's fantastic! I'm energized." Sure, they might make a strange musical team, but let's face it, there could be way more unlikely matchups than this one. It's not like Ozzy's getting together with Justin Bieber or anything... wait, what? Seriously? Damn.

Anyway, in addition to "Iron Man," the album will also feature the Shat's rendition of Queen's beloved "Bohemian Rhapsody." Just let that last bit of information soak in for a second or two. Got it? Good. Sure, maybe this album won't bust the goofy-meter like his unbelievably insane 1968 record The Transformed Man... but then again that one set the WTF bar impossibly high.

Seeking Major Tom is slated for release later this year, and in case you're still not convinced this thing is legit, the album's producer Adam Hamilton posted a video from the studio where the "Iron Man" guitar tracks were being laid down...
