In downtown Los Angeles, there is a German sausage restaurant settled in amongst crumbling retail spaces and run-down artists lofts. This brick-and-concrete restaurant has two doors: you enter through a large metal sliding door, and exit through an enormous solid wood door reinforced with metal. Naturally, you can imagine that such a setting would spawn near-constant talks about how to best protect oneself against a zombie uprising - especially after a few pints.
Leave it to the Eastern Europeans to create the first house that is truly zombie-proof. Polish architectural firm KWK Promes has built what they call "Safe House." Located outside Warsaw, this house was developed so that the residents can have the feeling of "maximum security." Find out more - and check out more pictures - after the break.
While you are waiting for the apocalypse, enjoy your unblemished view through walls made of floor-to-ceiling glass. Doesn't feel very secure? Worry not. The entire house folds into itself with motorized walls. Basically, the hyper-modern house becomes a giant concrete block. There is only one possible point of entry: a second-story drawbridge. There is even an indoor swimming pool, so you can stay fit during the invasion... and hold water shows with Shamu when all is clear. This one house is like every childhood pretend-game come to life.
