Chomping at the bit as you wait for Tim Burton's animated feature-film adaptation of Frankenweenie? Why not kill some time by checking out some of the other great spooky stop-motion animation that's out there? The good ol' interwebs are a gold mine of macabre modern classics -- IF you know where to look. Check out five of the best after the jump.
Chainsaw Maid
Sex and violence has never looked so sweet and innocent as it is in this offbeat homage to Romero...
The Sandman
I first stumbled upon this creeper from director Paul Berry years ago when it was part of one of those annual animation festival compilation films, which were the only way to see most animated shorts before YouTube was invented. It still holds up as a wicked example of Rankin-Bass gone horribly, horribly wrong. It's not embeddable, however, so click here to view it. You won't be disappointed.
Bedshaped
Keane's not for everybody. Some think they're great, some accuse them of being a low-grade Queen knock-off. I usually fall somewhere in the middle. But this music video goes a long way towards making me love them...
The Smaller Room
This may be the first animated film that can impart a feeling of total claustrophobia. Buried wasn't THIS frightening. And few films are as flat-out weird.
Hasta Los Huesos
I'd categorize Rene Castillo's musical short as From Dusk Till Dawn meets The Corpse Bride. Enjoy.
