Last month goth-rockers Paramore, best known among Twi-hards for their songs "Decode" and "I Caught Myself" on the first Twilight soundtrack, released their new single "Monster," signifying that the band may have bounced back from some career-stopping shakeups (especially the departure of charter members Josh and Zac Ferro last December). Yesterday the literally explosive new video for "Monster" premiered on MTV, and today you can watch it right here. Hit the jump for the clip and more details... including a bit of trivia about the video's FEARnet connection.
According to MTV.com, the song itself (which is also featured on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack) may have been inspired by the band's attempts to recover after the bitter departure of the Farros brothers, but the video focuses on the three remaining members (singer Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York and bassist Jeremy Davis) fighting a more literal battle...specifically, trying to escape the self-destruction of a run-down hospital, the walls literally blown apart by their own trapped alter-egos. The tension builds until it appears the cycle is about to repeat all over again, like an action-horror Groundhog Day.
Here's that FEARnet trivia we hinted about: the abandoned hospital where most of the "Monster" footage was shot was also the primary location for the hit web series Camera Obscura – the creation of FEARnet blogger and horror filmmaker Drew Daywalt. The creepy corridors of LA's Linda Vista Community Hospital have also played host to Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" video and genre classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the building has a long history of alleged paranormal activity.
